Maa laxmi bai or Manikarnika (Manu Bai) was born on 19 November 1828[5][6][7] in the holy town of Varanasi into a Marathi Brahminfamily.[8][9] She was named Manikarnika and was nicknamed Manu.[10] Her father was Moropant Tambe [11] and her mother Bhagirathi Sapre (Bhagirathi Bai). Her parents came from Maharashtra and was cousin of Nana Sahib.[12] Her mother died when she was four years old. Her father worked for a court Peshwa of Bithoor district who brought up Manikarnika like his own daughter.[13] The Peshwa called her "Chhabili", which means "playful". She was educated at home and was more independent in her childhood than others of her age; her studies included shooting, horsemanship, fencing[14][15] and Mallakhamba with her childhood friends Nana Sahib andTatya Tope.[16]
Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College or MLBMC or MLB Medical College is a state run medical college located in JhansiUttar Pradesh, India, The college affiliated to Bundelkhand University was established in 1968 and named after Rani Lakshmibai to provide the medical care of Bundelkhand region. The college building spread over a walled area of 380 acres and this is one of the biggest medical college campus in the country.
